Dark spots: measure them first, treat them second
Not all dark spots are the same. Melasma, sun spots and post-inflammatory marks look alike in the mirror but behave differently — and respond to different things. The facial scanner tells them apart before you spend money on the wrong treatment.

Why do dark spots appear on the face?
A dark spot is melanin sitting where it should not be. Pigment is produced by melanocytes, and three things mainly set them off: UV radiation, hormones and inflammation. On the Costa del Sol, with over 300 days of sun a year, the first one is close to unavoidable without a consistent protection routine.
The critical difference is depth. A solar lentigo is epidermal pigment — shallow, well defined, typically on cheekbones, forehead and décolleté. Melasma sits deeper and is often mixed (epidermal and dermal), appears in symmetrical patches, and is tied to hormonal factors: pregnancy, contraceptives, hormone treatments. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is the mark left behind by a spot, a graze or an over-aggressive treatment.
This matters more than it sounds. A treatment that clears a solar lentigo in a few sessions can make melasma worse — heat and aggression can reactivate it. Which is why the right order is: measure first, decide after.
What the scanner sees that the mirror does not
The facial scanner lights your skin with several wavelengths. Each one penetrates to a different depth, which is exactly what is needed to classify a spot.
Surface pigment
Visible light captures what is already apparent: the spot as the eye sees it, documented objectively and comparably over time.
Deep pigment
Polarised and infrared light pass below the surface and reveal melanin held in deeper layers — the pattern that separates melasma from a sun spot.
Latent sun damage
The UV image shows pigmentation that has not surfaced yet. This is the most useful part of the scan: these are your spots three to five years from now, and they can still be acted on.
Zone mapping
Distribution — symmetrical across the cheeks, scattered on the forehead, isolated on the cheekbones — is one of the most reliable clues to the origin, hormonal or solar.
What you leave with
A classification, not a label
Which type of pigmentation you have and how deep it sits, instead of a generic "you have some pigmentation".
The right order
What gets treated first, and what should be stabilised before anything is touched at all.
What to avoid
As important as the plan itself: the treatments and actives that, in your specific case, could make things worse.
A written 12-month plan
Home routine, in-clinic session cadence and photoprotection strategy, in writing, so none of it depends on what you remember from the consultation.
An objective baseline
The starting scan to compare against in six or twelve months, instead of relying on memory.
Price
The skin analysis is €40 and takes 20–25 minutes. The €40 comes off your first treatment or skincare purchase in full — so if you go ahead, the analysis costs you nothing. Pigmentation treatment prices are confirmed at the consultation, once we know what type of spot we are treating.
Frequently asked questions about dark spots
Can dark spots be removed completely?
It depends on the type. Shallow solar lentigines usually respond well. Melasma is considered a chronic, recurring condition: it is managed and kept in check rather than permanently cured. We do not promise results — we tell you what we are dealing with and what is reasonable to expect in your case.
Can I have the analysis done wearing make-up?
It is better to come without. If you arrive wearing make-up it is not a problem — we remove it here before scanning, it just adds a few minutes.
Can pigmentation be treated in summer?
The analysis itself can be done at any time of year. Some pigmentation treatments are better scheduled for the lower-sun months, and that is exactly the sort of thing your 12-month plan sets out: what to do now, and what to hold until autumn.
What if my spots are hormonal melasma?
The scanner helps identify the characteristic pattern. If the picture points to a hormonal origin, or if anything needs medical assessment, we will say so and recommend you see a dermatologist — this is not a medical consultation or a diagnosis.
Can I come just about the spots, without wanting treatment?
Yes. Plenty of people book the analysis purely to understand what they are looking at. There is no pressure selling: you leave with the written plan and decide later, or not at all.
