Facial redness: understand the pattern before treating it
Red skin can be thread veins, a damaged barrier, a reaction to products, or the vascular picture that often accompanies rosacea. They look alike. They are not treated alike — and with redness, the wrong treatment makes things worse fast.

Redness, thread veins and rosacea are not the same thing
Diffuse flushing that comes and goes with heat, alcohol or exercise is not the same as permanently dilated capillaries around the nose, and neither is the same as a barrier worn down by over-exfoliation. In the mirror they overlap. In origin they do not.
Rosacea is a chronic medical condition with a vascular and inflammatory component. It is diagnosed in a medical consultation, not by a scanner — and it is not something we diagnose or treat. What we can do is measure the vascular pattern and barrier state precisely, and tell you plainly whether what we see warrants a dermatologist.
That distinction is the most valuable part of the session. On reactive skin, much of the damage is caused by the attempts to fix it: acids that are too strong, stripping cleansers, heat-based treatments. Knowing which category you are in prevents months of getting worse.
What the scanner measures on reactive skin
Redness has a very specific optical signature. Haemoglobin absorbs light differently from melanin, which makes it possible to separate the vascular component from the pigmentary one.
Vascular pattern
Polarised light reveals the capillary network below the surface: where it is dilated, whether it is diffuse or linear, and which areas are genuinely affected versus merely appear so.
Surface versus deep redness
Telling reversible surface erythema apart from established structural vascularity completely changes what is reasonable to expect.
Barrier condition
Hydration and texture readings show whether the skin barrier is compromised. A great deal of redness is, underneath, a barrier problem with an identifiable cause in the routine.
Distribution map
Centrofacial, across the cheeks, around the nose or generalised: where redness concentrates is one of the most useful signals about its origin.
What you leave with
Knowing which category you are in
Reactive flushing, established thread veins or a damaged barrier — with the image in front of you, not a guess.
The list of what to remove
On reactive skin, subtracting usually matters more than adding. We identify what in your current routine may be feeding the problem.
An honest referral where needed
If the picture points to rosacea, we say so and recommend a dermatologist. We do not sell treatments for something that needs medical care.
A written 12-month plan
A barrier-repair routine, which triggers to avoid, and what is safe to do in clinic — in writing.
An objective baseline
The starting scan to compare against later, because redness fluctuates a lot and memory is not reliable.
Price
The skin analysis is €40 and takes 20–25 minutes. The €40 comes off your first treatment or skincare purchase in full. On reactive skin it is very common for the first recommendation to be not a treatment but a period of barrier repair with home care — and that is redeemable too.
Frequently asked questions about redness
Can you tell me whether I have rosacea?
No. Rosacea is a medical diagnosis and a dermatologist makes it. What we do is measure your vascular pattern and barrier condition, and tell you frankly whether what we see warrants medical assessment.
Can the scanner irritate sensitive skin?
No. The analysis is purely optical: light and a camera. There is no contact, no heat, no product, and nothing that penetrates the skin.
My skin is very reactive. Is it worth coming?
This is probably the case where it helps most. Reactive skin loses the most money to the wrong products and treatments, and benefits most from a clear list of what to stop doing.
Can thread veins be removed?
There are treatments aimed at surface vascularity, but which ones are appropriate depends on the pattern and on whether an underlying medical condition is involved. That is why we measure first and discuss options after — without promising results.
What if my redness is a reaction to a product?
That happens often. We go through your current routine alongside the scan; if something lines up with what the image shows, we flag it in the written plan.
